Standard LASIK corrects your spectacle power. Contoura Vision also uses a detailed map of your corneal surface, so the treatment can account for small irregularities that are unique to your eye.

Suitability Decided by Your Scans

Corneal thickness, shape, tear film and power stability are checked before any recommendation. If Contoura is not right for your eyes, you are told why, and other options such as surface ablation (PRK) or non-laser alternatives are discussed.

EYON is led by a cornea and ocular surface surgeon, and also treats dry eye. Any surface issues found during screening can be managed first, before laser correction is considered.

From Corneal Mapping to Follow Up, Explained Upfront

Step 1

Pre-LASIK Evaluation

Refraction, corneal topography, tomography and thickness, tear film and pupil checks. You receive a clear recommendation based on your scans.

Step 2

Counselling and Plan

Your surgeon explains the scans, whether Contoura, wavefront-optimised LASIK or another option suits you, and the complete cost before you commit.

Step 3

The Procedure

Numbing drops are used and the laser itself runs for a short time per eye, with both eyes usually treated in the same sitting at the Kharadi institute. Plan for someone to take you home.

Step 4

Review and Aftercare

A follow up review, prescribed drops and written instructions. Vision can fluctuate in the first few days, and follow up visits track how your eyes settle.

The Alcon WaveLight® Refractive Platform at EYON

Contoura Vision combines detailed corneal measurement with a high-speed excimer laser. Here is what each part does.

WaveLight® Topolyzer VARIO

Corneal topography using 22 rings and up to 22,000 elevation points, creating the detailed surface map that a Contoura treatment is planned from.

WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser

An excimer laser operating at 500 Hz with high-speed eye tracking, designed to follow small eye movements during the treatment.

Contoura Vision Planning

Your topography data is used to plan a personalised, topography-guided correction. Whether it suits your eyes is confirmed at your evaluation.

Am I suitable for Contoura Vision LASIK?

Suitability depends on your age, how stable your spectacle power has been, and the thickness, shape and surface health of your cornea. These are measured during your evaluation, and the recommendation is based on your scans.

Is Contoura better than standard LASIK?

Contoura adds topography-guided planning using a detailed map of your corneal surface, which may help where the cornea has small irregularities. Whether it is the better choice for you is decided at your evaluation.

Does the procedure hurt?

Numbing drops are used during the procedure. You may feel pressure, and some irritation or watering afterwards is common. This usually settles with the prescribed drops.

How fast is recovery?

Many people notice clearer vision soon after the procedure, but vision can fluctuate during the first few days. Your surgeon gives you specific guidance on screens, driving and returning to work.

Will I never need glasses again?

That cannot be promised. LASIK corrects your current power, but reading glasses may still be needed later in life as presbyopia develops with age.

Can I have LASIK if I have dry eyes?

It depends on the cause and severity. The eye surface is treated first, and some people are advised to wait or to choose another option. EYON also runs a dedicated dry eye service.

Can very high power be corrected?

That depends on your corneal thickness, its shape and how much tissue would need to be treated. If laser correction is not suitable, alternatives can be discussed.
